Family History DVD used as the textbook for a

Video Production course in Colorado

In September, 2003, the public school in Crested Butte, Colorado, offered a new Video Production Course to high school freshmen.  The textbook around which the course was developed is “Family History DVD”.  The course has been highly successful and has been expanded to accommodate the large number of students who chose to enroll in the class.  There is now an advanced course for those who consider video production as a future career.  It is also being taught to younger students.  Here is what the principal has to say about the course and Family History DVD:

“The book can be used by teachers as a stand-alone course, as a tool to teach history, or as a way to create projects enhancing any content area. Applying technology to curriculum via Family History DVD is a winner.”

                                                               Stephanie Niemi, School Principal

Sandy Robinson teaches students in Crested Butte, Colorado classroom, using Family History DVD as the textbook.

Students have produced many outstanding documentaries about their family histories, national and international history topics and many other subjects. Each student is required to produce a short story of his or her life as the first assignment.  The course has brought out creativity in students who never before realized they were creative.  It has also resulted in more involvement of the parents in their child’s education.
